Steve started his professional photographic career in 1986 while still studying, selling pictures of college sports events to other students. On leaving college in 1987 he worked as an assistant to a commercial photographer based in NW London. Here he added to his skills working with medium & large format cameras both in the studio & on location, & developing an understanding of how to transform a client’s concept or idea in to an image on film. A year later he setup on his own, building up a client list ranging from local businesses to blue chip companies. Over the years he has photographed a variety of subjects from dolls to dinner services, prime ministers to porn stars, guest speakers to loud speakers, anywhere from London & Las Vegas. New technology With the advent of digital cameras & photo retouching programs just about anyone thinks they can be a photographer – Steve would beg to differ. "Images are saved as a collection of 1’s & 0’s on slivers of silicon (try saying that after a few glasses of chardonnay), mistakes corrected at the click of a mouse, but a photographer still requires the ability to listen to their client’s requirements & then light the subject or scene to give them the original picture they had in their mind’s eye." "Image manipulation is a fantastic creative tool available to the photographer or designer, not a way improving poor photography." "A photographer’s skill is in his ability to listen & light" Outside work While “resting” Steve can often be found underwater indulging in his passion for scuba diving, a qualified instructor he has dived around the world in Australia, Galapagos Islands, Borneo & Egypt to name a few, often with his wife & a camera. He is also an active member of St.Albans Sub-Aqua Club. When at home enjoys cooking, drinking red wine & listening to music. He doesn’t like football, never watches soaps & can’t understand why anyone watches Big Brother ! |
